"Tax Credit for Personal Services: Who Is Eligible and How Do You Claim It?"

The tax credit program for personal services allows approximately 4.5 million taxpayers to benefit from an income tax reduction. The tax authorities cover 50% of the expenses related to these services, up to a maximum of 12,000 euros for a household without children.

 

Eligibility Requirements for the Tax Credit
 

To take advantage of this tax benefit, it is important to fill out your tax return correctly. Eligible expenses include the employment of individuals who perform family- or household-related tasks, such as child care, tutoring, assistance for the elderly or disabled, light gardening, minor home repairs, computer and administrative support, as well as pet care and walking.

 

Expenses Eligible for the Tax Credit
 

The tax credit is calculated based on the expenses actually incurred by the taxpayer, up to the annual limit. For a household without children, this limit is 12,000 euros, but it is increased by 1,500 euros per dependent child. Thus, for three children, 16,500 euros in expenses can be taken into account, resulting in a tax credit of up to 8,250 euros.

”Tax Credit: Tax returns can be filed online, but please note that this option is unavailable for at least two-thirds of taxpayers. Only taxpayers in departments 55 through 974 and 976 can file their returns through Thursday, June 6, 2024. If you forgot to report these expenses and do not live in these departments, you will have to wait until the online amendment period, which runs from July 31, 2024, through December 4, 2024, inclusive.
