Family Offices' Preferred Investments
Family offices and their families experienced a new wave of investment in 2023, according to the 9th OpinionWay survey for the AFFO.
A Family Office is an organization dedicated to the wealth management interests of one or more families, supporting them in key areas such as wealth-related legal and tax matters, finance and investment, as well as personal relationships. It coordinates all of the family’s experts and specialists to implement and manage the wealth management strategy.
Despite economic crises, families play a crucial role in supporting regional and national economic growth by investing in sectors such as infrastructure, private debt, and equity in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), mid-market companies, and startups. Their long-term commitment and financial stability enable them to support businesses and contribute to national sovereignty as well as the local economy.
In 2023, 52% of respondents said that families had increased their investments in France and abroad, an 11-point increase compared to 2022. Private equity led the way in investments at 23%, followed by publicly traded stocks and investment real estate, each at 21%. Listed and private debt are also seeing growing interest, at 13%.
Investments in startups also remain popular, with 77% of families enthusiastic about investing in this area. Families' concerns for 2024 include inflation, expectations regarding monetary policy, and fiscal stability in France.
