Who will receive their tax credit in January?
Starting Monday, January 15, nearly 9 million taxpayers are expected to receive an advance on their income tax credits and deductions
This is an advance payment from the Department of the Treasury amounting to 60% of the total amount. Who will be affected? First, taxpayers who have made donations to charities, political parties, or labor unions. But also families who have used the services of a home care provider or a housekeeper.
In total, the tax authorities will pay the equivalent of 5.8 billion euros to more than 9 million tax households as an advance on certain tax credits and deductions. On average, the payment will be 634 euros for the tax households in question.
The payment is linked to the 2023 tax return covering 2022 income and expenses eligible for tax credits or deductions. The amount paid will correspond to 60% of the total value of these credits and deductions. It can be found on the tax notice received in June 2023 and should also appear on a document that will soon be available in the taxpayer’s personal account on the tax agency’s website. The Public Finance Department has begun notifying beneficiaries by email.
Please note, however, that if the advance payment is less than 8 euros, taxpayers may not receive anything by January 15. Others are asked to be patient and to verify that their bank account information is up to date in their personal account. For taxpayers whose bank account information is not on file with the tax authority, this advance will be paid by check, which they will receive by mail by the end of January. This will affect 183,000 households in 2024.
