Rejected Mortgage Applications: Toward a Possible Reconsideration

From February through December 2024, banks will gradually implement a temporary program to “review rejected mortgage applications.”

This program is intended for individual customers of the bank that denied the loan and who are not listed on the payment delinquency records maintained by the Banque de France.

However, only loan applications for the borrower’s primary residence, a second home, or a rental investment that meet the High Council for Financial Stability’s eligibility criteria may be reconsidered. In other words, applications that do not comply with the maximum debt-to-income ratio of 35%, among other requirements, will not be subject to reconsideration.
