What should you do if your pension payment is late?
Despite promises of simplification, future retirees in France continue to face difficulties in asserting their rights and receiving their pension payments on time.
The main problems encountered are delays in processing cases, a lack of information and transparency regarding the status of applications, errors in pension calculations, and difficulties in appealing decisions.
Although there is a system in place to ensure that the pension is paid on the requested date, even if the application is incomplete, processing delays persist and affect approximately 20 percent of applications.
In addition, policyholders complain about the lack of information and communication with the departments handling their cases, as well as the difficulties in scheduling appointments with experts.
Errors in pension calculations are also common, involving issues with calculating the length of insurance coverage, taking into account the best years of earnings, and applying the insurance coverage extension for children. Some insured individuals also have difficulty asserting their rights to phased retirement and transitioning to full retirement.
In the event of a dispute, policyholders may file a claim with the Amicable Appeals Commission (CRA); however, the CRA is often overwhelmed and may take several months to review a case—or may not respond at all. Policyholders are therefore advised to wait for the CRA’s decision before filing a lawsuit, which may further prolong the process.
