67% of French people believe the healthcare system is becoming less and less effective

Eighty-two percent of French people believe that additional fees are unjustified. More than 52% avoid seeing their primary care physician due to financial difficulties. Eighty-nine percent of French people are interested in a healthcare expense advance service provided by their employer.

A survey by the startup Rosaly reveals growing dissatisfaction among the French with the healthcare system, particularly due to out-of-pocket expenses and financial difficulties. One solution being considered to address these issues is for employers to advance healthcare costs, a proposal that has broad support among the French.

Was it better before?

Two out of three French people (67%) believe that the current healthcare system is in decline and becoming less and less effective. In addition, 18% feel that the healthcare system is stagnating and not changing—neither for the better nor for the worse. Only 15% say it is becoming more effective. Overall, the French believe that the healthcare system in France is becoming less and less effective (67%), is stagnating in terms of performance (18%), or is becoming more and more effective (15%).
 

Unacceptable fee overcharges

Surcharges have become a common practice (1 in 2 doctors in 2024), but one that outrages a large portion of the population. In fact, more than 82% of French people consider these surcharges to be unreasonable. Beyond this dissatisfaction, nearly 11% say they do not understand this practice of overcharging. Only 7% of French people find it normal for doctors to charge extra fees and understand why, while 11% find it normal but do not really know why.
 

Financial Problems That Affect Health

While health must come first, the financial difficulties faced by the French can affect their decisions about seeking medical care. In fact, more than one in two French people (52%) admit to having to postpone a visit to their primary care physician when facing financial problems. However, fewer people cancel an appointment with a primary care physician (33%), and even fewer choose not to buy medication (9%). Only 6% of French people would not delay any healthcare-related expenses in the event of financial difficulties.
 

The Solution: Advance Payment of Medical Expenses

In light of this issue, more than 89% of French people would be in favor of their employer offering a service that provides advances on healthcare costs. 67% would be very much in favor of this type of solution, and 22% would be in favor. Only 11% of French people would be opposed to this proposal.
