Insurance, housing, health care... What Changed on April 1
Motorcycle inspections, the end of the insurance sticker, and a winter moratorium for tenants… Find out what has changed for you since April 1.
Cars/Motorcycles
Starting April 15, registered two-wheeled vehicles must undergo a technical inspection every three years to ensure they are in good condition. Failure to undergo a technical inspection is punishable by a fine of 135 euros.
Car and motorcycle insurance remains mandatory, but it is no longer necessary to display the insurance sticker on the windshield. During a traffic stop, law enforcement officers will be able to verify the driver’s and vehicle’s insurance coverage through the Insured Vehicles Database (FVA) using the license plate number.
Health
The medical copayment doubles to one euro per box of medication dispensed to a patient or per procedure performed by a healthcare assistant (nurse, physical therapist, speech-language pathologist, psychomotor therapist, podiatrist, etc.).
Several social benefits paid by the CAF have been increased by 4.6 percent: the RSA, for example, will rise from 607.75 euros to 635.70 euros. The activity bonus, family allowances, and the allowance for adults with disabilities (AAH) will also see their amounts increased.
Housing April 1 marks the end of the winter eviction moratorium, which began on November 1. The law therefore once again permits the eviction of tenants.
Starting today, the government will send an energy check to the 5.6 million households eligible for it to help them pay their electricity, gas, or heating oil bills.
The end of the rent cap, introduced in the summer of 2022, which limited the increase in the calculation index—and thus in rents—to 3.5% for mainland France, 2% for Corsica, and 2.5% for the overseas departments.
