Purchasing a Quarter of Coverage for Retirement: Which Scale Should Be Used?
The Cnav has just published the buyback price for basic pension contribution quarters for the year 2024. As usual, this price takes into account the insured person’s age and salary.
Individuals between the ages of 20 and 67 may purchase quarters to cover years of higher education and calendar years for which fewer than four quarters have been credited. The buyback may cover a maximum of 12 quarters, and the payment amount is determined based on the applicant’s age, salary level or annual income, as well as the buyback option selected (rate only or rate plus insurance period).
Since no new fee schedule has been published in the past 8 years, the 2013 fee schedule remains in effect for applications filed between 2014 and 2024. However, annual compensation levels are adjusted in line with annual increases in the Annual Social Security Ceiling (Pass). As of January 1, 2024, this ceiling stands at €3,864 per month and €46,368 per year.
Three pay brackets are taken into account: the annual average salary below 75% of the Pass, the annual average salary between 75% and 100% of the Pass, and the annual average salary above the cap.
It should be noted that the retirement payment schedule applies to aligned buybacks, specifically under the basic pension plan for salaried employees, agricultural workers, artisans, and merchants, as well as for self-employed individuals. It also applies to contribution buyback programs available to individuals who have been self-employed outside French territory since January 1, 1949.
