Health: How can you check to see if your data has been stolen?

In late January, two companies responsible for managing direct billing for supplemental health insurance—Viamedis and Almerys—were the victims of a cyberattack, exposing the data of more than 33 million French citizens, or nearly half the country’s population.
 

The compromised information includes personal status, date of birth, Social Security number, the name of the health insurer, and details of the policies held by policyholders and their families. The National Commission for Information Technology and Civil Liberties (CNIL) has launched an investigation to determine whether the security measures in place complied with the requirements of the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation).
 

At this point, the CNIL cannot confirm whether you have been affected by this cyberattack. However, there are several websites that can help you check whether your personal data has been compromised. 

Here are some of the main ones:

1. haveibeenpwned.com: This site allows users to check whether their data has been compromised by entering their email address or phone number.
2. Avast: Avast antivirus software offers a similar service to check whether data has been leaked.
3. Cybernews: This cybersecurity-focused web media outlet also offers a feature to check for compromised data.
4. F-Secure: This Finnish company specializing in privacy protection offers a comprehensive service that not only identifies the websites responsible for the leaks but also provides details on the stolen data, as well as the date of the incident.
